Orange Fizz

FB Recruiting

The Secondary is a Primary Disaster

The stats say it clearly – the team is 118th in defensive passing yards out of 120 teams. That’s Groobers-esque.

‘Tis the midpoint of the season and¬†The Fizz has made made its position clear; the secondary is the biggest trouble spot on the team.

It’s not like we got there through any quadratic formulas or analysis. Didn’t need to. The stats say it clearly – the team is 118th in defensive passing yards out of 120 teams. That’s Groobers-esque. And long passes keep happening; it’s just scary.

There is, however, always a reason for hope, and the play of commit Mario Tull this season is a shining light.

The senior safety is having a solid all-around season for Xaverian High School (Brooklyn) before he steps on The Hill.

On the defensive side of the ball, he’s been everywhere; 23 total tackles, 1 interception, and 2 sacks through six games this year.

Xaverian hasn’t followed his lead with a 3-3 record, but still, the two-star recruit should be a boost to the secondary of the Orange.

The biggest question will be if he remains in the secondary when he gets to SU. He is listed at 6’1″, 201 pounds; if the Orange still sees itself thin at linebacker, he could be moved there.

Team Fizz will be assessing both areas of weakness this weekend Рboth Couzens and I will be at the Akron game. Look for tweets from us all weekend.

UPDATE

The Calipari conspiracy has been foiled, apparently by Coach K.

Kyrie Irving, the potential duo partner for Tobias Harris at Kentucky, seems to be headed to Duke, according to ZagsBlog.

Dear Tobias, just read Couzens’ post from Tuesday; you could team up with Josh Selby, or (crazy stretch) Brandon Knight. See ya on the Hill! Sincerely, The Fizz.
