Tobias Does Not Equal Jayvaughn

Tobias Harris’ decision left some wondering if the odd-man out with the Vols would turn around and sign with the ‘Cuse. Not so much.

Last month, Tobias Harris left Syracuse at the ESPN Zone altar when he chose Tennessee (to a chorus of boos from Orange Nation).

That left some wondering if the odd-man out with the Vols would turn around and sign with the ‘Cuse.

Not so much.

Jayvaughn Pinkston was set to announce his decision to play for UT the day before Tobias’ 11th-hour commitment. Pinkston bailed at the last minute. But instead of joining the 2010 Fab Four at SU, he’ll be balling for another Big East power.

Pinkston, from Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, has committed to Villanova.

It never appeared Syracuse was in the cards, even after the Tobias switch. Pinkston, who averaged 23.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game last season, chose the Wildcats over Tennessee, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Marquette.

He had four Big East schools among his finalists.

Kimani Young is Pinkston’s AAU coach.¬†“Over the last few weeks, he was weighing his options. There were just too many positives about Villanova.”

How about PT on the stacked Wildcats?

“If you’re a player, you want to play with other (good) players. You’re not worried about playing time. And I’ll tell you what: I don’t know any coach who’s not going to put a player on the floor who can help the team win. It’ll be hard to keep him off the floor.”
