FizzCast: Bristol’s Sherriff

ESPN News’ Anish Shroff drops by The Fizz to talk about this SU hoops squad and how the SU faithful dominates the ESPN newsroom.

Forty-eight hours until National Signing Day – which is considered¬†The Fizz’s holiday of lights.

Final Four aspirations. Marrone’s second signing class. A Top-5 recruiting haul for Boeheim and co. next spring. Life is good these days for Orange Nation.

ESPN News’ Anish Shroff is feeling the flow as well. He drops by¬†The Fizz to compare this SU hoops squad with the ‘Melo edition, discuss the Final Four contenders and how the SU faithful dominates the ESPN newsroom.

“We’re not used to having our team be the favorite, being the over-dog, so to speak. Now we have to deal with this thing called expectations.

“In ’03, Jim Boeheim handled it greatly. He never allowed the expectations of that team to be put on that team externally. By the end of the season it was, ‘Wow, we have the best player in the country and the best team in the country.'”

Is the going a little too good right now?

“I’m guilty of this myself. Being a Syracuse fan, it’s like watching those Looney Tunes cartoons. At some time you’re waiting for the anvil to fall. We’ve seen things like Vermont and Richmond in the past. Part of me is still waiting for the anvil to drop, hopefully it doesn’t. But that’s just part of being a Syracuse fan.”

How professional do you have to be around the Bristol newsroom as SU makes this national surge?

“During football season, I have to keep my mouth shut. I tend to be a little obnoxious during basketball season. I’ll let it fly, get on the roller coaster of emotions.”

Obnoxious? Yeah, The Fizz can relate.
