With Michigan Mess, Rob Trudo Looks Safe For Syracuse

Rob Trudo looks safe as a Syracuse Orange commit. And this begins The Fizz’s slight reprieve from Days of Ishaq’s Life.

Much was made when lineman Rob Trudo decided to take a visit to Michigan, even though he had verbally committed to SU.

The Rich Rodriguez firing couldn’t have come at a better time for Syracuse. The maligned coach was canned on Thursday, right before their biggest recruiting weekend of the year.

“There are four weekends for recruits to officially visit in January, but U-M has scheduled most of their recruits for the first weekend, which starts Jan. 7. Eight prospects not currently committed to U-M are scheduled to visit Ann Arbor officially that weekend, though that number could change.”

The timing for this decision is incredibly bad for the Wolverines. The football staff staged it as their big weekend before signing day. Way to go, athletic director Dave Brandon!

One can only imagine what happened when Trudo hit campus and there was nobody there. It’d be like a suspense movie. Eight recruits and their families forced to survive in the frigid Michigan wasteland.

The Fizz is more curious then anything. If the coach is fired and there’s no replacement yet, who takes you on the campus tour? Greg Robinson’s little engine that could?

Or maybe they get the standard student affairs tour like the rest of us shleps. Does that include a free meal voucher and a goodie bag instead of the standard recruiting party favors? (Basketball tickets and college parties.)

Better yet, what if Brandon led the team on the tour? “This is the building that (clear throat) someone (cough) will teach you about a real defense, and not a 3-3-5.”

The moral of the story is it’s all good news for Syracuse fans, who wanted no part of Greg Robinson still haunting them in his Orange afterlife. Trudo should be considered safe as a Syracuse commit.
