ESPN’s SportsNation Ranks Hakim Warrick’s Dunk #13 All-Time

In the spirit of March Madness, ESPN’s SportsNation ranked the top college dunks and Syracuse’s Hakim Warrick’s tomahawk against Texas in the 2003 Final Four ranked #13 of all-time. Granted, a current day-time show on ESPN2 only rates slightly ahead of Rodney Peete and Chris Rose’s grand lists on “Best Damn Sports Show Period” – but it’s still respect, nonetheless. (Plus, anytime the Orange is spoken by hottie Michelle Beadle, The Fizz swoons a little.)

The website YouGotDunkedOn.com has a page dedicated to this flush and the stills are priceless. Warrick elevates over Royal Ivey of the Longhorns and attacks the rim, while allowing Ivey to smell the sweetness of Syracuse hoops shorts. It was especially entertaining to hear members of Michigan’s Fab 5, catcall and yelp in studio when SportsNation played the Warrick clip.

Hopefully, we stand at the starting line of another deep Syracuse run through March. Amazing to think it’s been eight years since that fateful run to a National Championship and Warrick’s sheer explosion still leaves you in awe. Has anyone ever naturally been built to play in Jim Boeheim’s 2-3 zone more perfectly than the impossibly long Warrick?

He was all arms, legs and rocket boosters on his sneakers, seemingly launching himself from everywhere on the court to flush. Of course, his block of Michael Lee’s jumper from the corner in the title game will live forever in the lore of Syracuse basketball, but his filthiness around the basket is once-in-a-generation.

We’ll leave you with a pretty cool remix from YouTube on Warrick’s best destructions, and it ends with Warrick’s mash on the Longhorns.
