I just think it's nuts that Hopkins & others would want SU out of the tournament. If they hate the Orange so much, why not welcome a weaker version into the big dance with the intention of beating SU badly on national television. Granted it's already happend once, but the point is that these rivalries are good for the game. Who wants to watch Bryant face Loyola?

Beardsley has a point. Hopkins people will do anything they can to keep SU out of the NCAAs, and those are the people who run the sport. That said, this team is pathetic and has no business expecting any love from the selection committee. I watched the Georgetown game and it was a painful watch. They couldn't complete easy passes, made stupid unforced turnovers, there were horrible defensive breakdown, the shot selection was awful, and no one could consistently beat a defender on the dodge and create their own shot. The closest they have to a guy who can be isolated and create a shot is Marasco, and shooting is not his strong suit. Problem one is that the team's most experienced players are not necessarily the most talented ones. The second problem is that the face off situation has been bad for years, and was never resolved. The third problem is that Desko waited too long to go with Wardwell. He should've made the change after some of the awful goals allowed in the PC game. Coaching decisions are purely John Desko's fault. Daddio has good face-off technique, but has a terrible stick. He can't win ground balls, is a terrible passer, and struggles just cradling the ball. Watch UNC play. Their face-off man has a total game like Jeremy Thompson had, but is better on the draw than Jeremy ever was. It is Desko's job to recruit talent to fit needs. Well, the face-off situation has been bad for at least 3 years now, and Desko has totally failed to recruit someone to fix the situation. Also, to some degree, SU's coaching on face off situations should be questioned too. Why aren't the guys recruited to win face offs able to win face offs, or get ground balls, like their counterparts at UVa, Duke, UNC and even HOBART do? This isn't all on the players. Some of it is coaching technique. As for the goalie situation, Wardwell is still letting in goals he shouldn't, but is clearly the best option. That move should've been made sooner. Desko has won 5 titles, but is he failing to adjust to changes in the game? It appears so. SU will miss the tournament this year unless they win the Big East tournament. If they play against Nova the way they did last Saturday, don't worry about SU even making the Big East final. My guess is that they don't win the Big East tournament and end up watching the NCAAs on TV. Sorry, but the truth is that this isn't a very good team. Period. The only good news to come of all this is that there will be a shot clock next year in college lacrosse. The momentum in coaching, etc. circles is headed in that direction. The dreadful stall ball that Maryland played in the ACC tournament virtually assured that.
