Miami’s Q-Dog: Syracuse Targets South Florida QB/ATH Quinton Flowers

What does Syracuse have in common with Alabama and Clemson?

All three are in the hunt for wide receiver Quinton Flowers from Miami (FL) Jackson High School. Flowers is 6’0” 203 lbs. and committed to USF in mid-June, but decommitted shortly afterward.

Flowers is listed as a wide receiver by Scout.com, and ESPN lists him as an athlete. There’s a few positional options for him at the college level. At Jackson he plays quarterback in a tough, physical, mobile style.

Once he breaks free from the pocket and scrambled through defenders he is very difficult to take down. He also has the speed and footwork to be an option at wideout. His quickness allows him to break open and run crisp routes.

The list is long for Flowers and there’s already major competition for the three-star player.

He has received offers from Alabama, Cincinnati, Clemson, East Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Marshall, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, USF, Syracuse, TCU, Texas, UCF and West Virginia, according to Scout.

Syracuse already has a quarterback commit in A.J. Long and is still looking at JR Zazzara from CBA. Sean White from Boca Raton is no longer in the mix after recently committed to play for Auburn.

A power rankings story on Bleacher Report lists Flowers as the No. 10 quarterback in the ’14 recruiting class, describing him as a dual-threat quarterback.

He ran a 4.72 40, according to ESPN Recruiting Nation. It’s not surprising Syracuse is in this race considering the connection to South Florida that George McDonald has. The Mailman has delivered many times already for the Orange, but beating Alabama, Clemson and Texas to a player would be the biggest package of them all.
