Orange Fizz Talks To Syracuse 2017 LB Diego Fagot

Last week, Orange Fizz’s Nathan Dickinson talked to Class of 2017 linebacker Diego Fagot, who has an offer from Syracuse as well as Pittsburgh, Army, Navy and a number of other schools.

Orange Fizz: You have a ton of offers. Could you run through some of the schools you’re looking at most seriously?

Diego Fagot: I really want to play in the Power Five. I’ve gotten a few Power Five offers, I’ve also gotten a lot of offers outside the Power Five like in the American Athletic Conference. I really like Navy and I really like all the schools in that conference. And of course, Syracuse and Pitt and my other three Power Five offers. I haven’t really scratched any names out or put a plus next to anyone. I’m just going through the motions and seeing what will happen this summer.

OF: You have some offers from all over the country. You’re from Fort Lauderdale, how will location factor into your decision?

DF: I don’t think it would matter much to me. As long as I really like the school and the coaching staff. It all depends on where God really wants me to play. If I fit the mold, distance shouldn’t be a factor in my decision at all.

OF: Tell us a little more about your recruitment from Syracuse. What coaches have been talking to you?

DF: I have been talking to Coach Nick Monroe a lot. We try to stay in touch every now and then. He saw my Pitt offer and reached out to me and said ‘We’ve been looking at your film and we really like how you’ve been playing’. We built a relationship. One day he came over to the school and we bumped into each other. I met him and he came to see me practice… They offered me later that night when I called them.

OF: Dino Babers is a new coach at Syracuse and also an offensive-minded coach. Does it change your view on the school knowing that the he coach wasn’t someone who was brought in to help the defense?

DF: I don’t think so, no. I trust him, and if he’s the head coach he’s not there all for offense. There’s two other parts of the game – special teams and defense – and without those two you can’t win a game no matter how many touchdowns you score. I don’t think that’s an issue at all.

OF: How does the ACC stack up to the other conferences in your mind?

DF: I think it’s in the top two. Just because of Clemson and Florida State; they beat everybody. I think it’s great competition. What more can I say? They show how good they are by their records and the way they play and how many are in the Top 25 each year. I think the ACC is a great conference.
