Who is Next for Syracuse in the Transfer Portal?

Summer's around the corner. It is a beautiful time of year. College basketball practices start in just over a month

yet it's still time to talk Transfer Portal because, well, this is just the world that we live in now

The Portal will always dominate the news cycle, and for Syracuse, a very interesting spring

when it comes to the Transfer Portal because they gained a lot. They gained a lot of talent

the likes of Eddie Lampkin and Jaquan Carlos, along with some other guys

but they also lost a lot, and they lost a lot numbers-wise with Muneer Hima, Peter Carey

William Patterson, Justin Taylor. A lot of guys departed the Orange this off-season

Not as many came in, so just 10 scholarship players on the roster right now

In college basketball, you get 13, which, of course, that means that there's three spots left

for Syracuse to fill, but what is Adrian Antwerp gonna do with those three spots

What should he do with those three spots? It's a very hard thing to think about

because I don't know if there's any more minutes to give away

If you look at the guards with JJ Starling and Jaquan Carlos

you bring in the freshman Elijah Moore, everyone loves Chance Westry, there's no room for any new players

When it comes to the forwards, it's the same thing with the transfers that have brought in

the freshmen coming in, the players coming back. It feels like all of the 10 players

on the roster right now deserve to be there. They're all good players, they're talented players

and they're guys who deserve to get minutes. So, who is gonna fill those three roster spots

I don't think it can be the type of player who is gonna get significant minutes

because I don't think that there's anyone on the team right now that can lose those minutes

I just named all those guards. I don't think any of them are losing minutes right now

I think that Elijah Moore's probably not gonna get the minutes that he deserves because he's got three other really good guards

in the room right now. Same thing with the forwards, same thing with the centers

So, does Syracuse try and bring in a developmental type player? I think that's the big question

Do they look at some freshmen maybe who are lower ranked but have really good physical attributes

who could eventually grow into their bodies? I think that's what you're looking for

But the issue is that's really difficult to do nowadays. I mentioned how Peter Carey

and William Patterson are transferring. Those are two guys who redshirted. Carey, a year ahead of Patterson

got some time this past year. He was developing. You'd expect as time goes on, he would get more minutes

But that's not how college basketball works. He wasn't getting the minutes he wanted

so he decided to transfer. Patterson redshirts one year and he's gone

So, I don't know if you can bring in a player who you're gonna put on the bench

and develop like you used to be able to in college basketball

I also, though, don't think that you can bring in a super talented or highly coveted transfer

because I don't know where they fit into this team. I think if you're Adrian Autry

you're pretty happy with the 10 guys you have right now. So, what do you do

Who do you bring in? I don't know, but I'm not a coach for a reason. Let's see what Adrian Autry decides to do
