Utah to the Atlantic Coast Conference
0:03
I know it sounds crazy, but as it feels like I always say
0:08
this is just college sports nowadays and we have to get used to it. Hello everyone, I'm Adam Gatkin with Orange Fizz
0:13
and the rumors are flying around that the Utes could be joining the ACC
0:20
and this is massive news and a big deal for the conference
0:24
which right now is in a really interesting spot. So let's just take a quick step back
0:30
and a broader look at college sports. The SEC and the Big Town are without a doubt
0:34
the top two conferences. There's no arguing that and it's pretty obvious
0:39
Outside of that, who's number three? It's either the Big 12 or the ACC
0:44
and if Utah joins the ACC, then I think that moves the Atlantic Coast
0:49
up to number three above the Big 12. In this most recent realignment
0:53
the Pac-12 teams that left for the Big 12 are better than the ones that left for the ACC
0:58
The Big 12 got Utah, got Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State compared to Stanford and Cal
1:05
coming to the ACC. Two great academic schools, but not two schools
1:09
that are very good at sports when it comes to football and basketball
1:14
Utah on the other hand has been a football powerhouse recently and if the ACC can poach the Utes from the Big 12
1:21
then it brings another consistent football powerhouse to a conference that desperately needs it
1:27
Utah has been an incredible football program recently. Utah has been ranked in each of the last 10 years
1:34
in the AP poll at some point. They've also been in the top 10 at some point
1:39
in each of the last three years. The only other ACC school that can say that is Clemson
1:44
and there really isn't anyone else that's anywhere close. The ACC desperately needs a power
1:50
that can consistently compete with Clemson. Florida State was there last year
1:55
but can Florida State keep it up? No one really knows. Is Miami ever gonna come back
1:59
No one knows, but if Utah can come to the ACC, then there is that other consistent power
2:05
that this conference desperately needs that moves the ACC above the Big 12
2:11
I think without a doubt when it comes to football. Basketball wise, Utah is not great
2:16
but again, neither are any of the other teams really other than Arizona that joined the Big 12
2:23
out of the Pac-12. So there's a chance here for the ACC
2:26
to add a football powerhouse, and that's something that I really don't think
2:32
can be looked at in a bad way at all. Another thing that interests me, and I think that interests a lot of Syracuse fans
2:37
when it comes to Utah, is that they do have a men's lacrosse team
2:40
It would add a sixth team to the ACC, which means that the conference in men's lacrosse
2:45
would get an auto bid, something that the ACC has desperately been looking for recently
2:50
You need six teams for your conference tournament to actually mean something
2:54
And while Utah would probably get destroyed in men's lacrosse, it would be a sixth team
2:58
and it would really help out the conference in ways outside of just football
3:02
So we'll see if it actually happens. It seems like no one ever knows
3:06
about anything nowadays in college sports, but hey, it's fun and stuff to talk about
