The Fab Six

Selby’s possible road to the ‘Cuse was not always so promising. He decommitted from Tennessee to start re-evaluating his collegiate choices.

While The Fizz took a look yesterday at one big time name who was at UK Midnight Madness, today we look at another baller who was at KU Midnight Madness.

Josh Selby is a five-star point guard rated third at his position and is a free agent in the class of 2010.

Selby took in the sights and sounds of Allen Fieldhouse for¬†Late Night at the Phog, but really, what’s impressive about cornfields and log-rolling competitions?

(Editor’s Note: You mean besides one of the best on-campus venues in college basketball, a program soaked in tradition and NBA players, a perennial Final Four contender, a top-flight coach and a team just two years removed from a National Championship? Eh, nothing.)

His possible road to the ‘Cuse was not always so promising. It was July when he¬†decommitted from Tennessee to start re-evaluating his collegiate choices.

While Selby’s mom says it was because he wanted to broaden his opportunities and look at more schools, apparently some say it had to do with sneakers.

UT is an Adidas school, and the word around Rocky Top blogging circles was that Selby felt like attending a Nike sponsored school would give him a better chance of landing a kicks deal when he made it to the league.

Ridiculous? Absolutely. But is SU a Nike school? Yes. So we continue…

Selby’s an interesting case because he comes from the Baltimore area and used to play at prep powerhouse DeMatha Catholic.

He transferred to Lake Clifton high where he plays now. His AAU team? Team Melo.

On top of that, his high school coach is Herman Harried. Yep, the former SU basketball player from the mid 1980s.

That’s got to have a swing effect on Selby.

Here at¬†The Fizz, we’ve discussed the effects of bringing in Tobias Harris or Brandon Knight to solidify a sort of “Fab Five” for the class of 2010, but Selby’s flown a little off that radar.

The Fizz is owned, edited and operated by Damon Amendolara. D.A. is an ’01 Syracuse graduate from the Newhouse School with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
