SU in Georgia for Lynch’s Spring Game

The Orange is reportedly on hand for LB Cam Lynch’s spring game today.

Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia will hold Day One of it’s annual spring game this afternoon and Syracuse will be on hand.

According to an internet report, LB Cameron Lynch (class of ’11) confirmed members from the Orange coaching staff will be watching after delivering him an offer a few weeks ago.

It’s rare for Marrone and Co. to travel so far for a recruit who’s not a blue-chipper. While Lynch has received interest from his home state schools Georgia and Georgia Tech, only Syracuse, Air Force and Buffalo have given him offers.

It doesn’t get Orange Nation overly juiced when you’re in on a kid with the beasts of the Mountain West and MAC. So why has Lynch thus far elicited only these offers? Most likely his size. Lynch is only listed at 5’11” – and that’s probably being generous.

But Marrone likely is focusing on his play-making ability at the linebacker spot. He’s described as a “bruising hitter,” accelerates quickly and drops the hammer with ferocity.

Check out some of his highlights on YouTube. He runs the 40 in 4.68 (pretty good for a LB) and benches 335. Also, incredibly alluring? His character. We know Marrone suffers no fools and a kid with a 3.7 GPA and 1435 on his SAT is not gonna provoke many late night phone calls after drunken Turning Stone runs.

I mean, hell, Harvard’s in on the kid.

Lynch has been Brookwood’s replacement for Rennie Curran, who now mans the defense for UGA. There was once another undersized defender who used his speed and instincts for the quarterback, along with the fast Dome turf, to turn into a pretty decent player a decade ago.

Maybe Marrone is sniffing the next Dwight Freeney. Orange Nation can dream can’t we?
