Monday Morning Recruiting Update: Thomas Bryant Decision Looming

It’s March, folks. Usually at this time, Orange fans are anxiously awaiting SU’s NCAA tournament seeding, but with no postseason this year, the focus is quickly moving to next year.

March also means spring is approaching and that is when Thomas Bryant has said he will make his college decision. The 6’10’’ Rochester, NY product has narrowed his list of schools down to Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Syracuse but many believe that it’s only between the Orange and the Wildcats.

Bryant would be the icing on the cake for Syracuse’s 2015 basketball class. Jim Boeheim already has commitments from 4-star shooting guards Malachi Richardson and Franklin Howard as well as 4-star big men Moustapha Diagne and Tyler Lydon.

If Bryant did commit though, there would be a potential scholarship issue. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Keep an eye out for Bryant’s commitment, it’s coming.

Looking to 2016, SU already has a commitment from 6’8’’ forward Matthew Moyer. The Orange’s chance at securing another 2016 commit took a hit though when Syracuse lost to Duke Saturday 73-54. According to 247sports.com 6’5’’ New Jersey shooting guard Tyus Battle is considering both SU and Duke. The 5-star player may be high on the Orange, but it is hard to ignore the team’s shortcomings this season and potential NCAA sanctions.

Finally in a way-too-early look at the 2017 class there are two recruits that jump out as players Syracuse could be interested in down the road due to their locations and size. Harlem, New York‚Äôs center¬†Mohammed Bamba is a 6‚Äô10‚Äô‚Äô rim rocker; view his highlights here. The second player is Franklin, Massachusetts’ 6‚Äô6‚Äô‚Äô small forward Jermaine Sameuls. Here are his highlights.
