Fizz Five: Stories We’re Monitoring Ahead Of National Signing Day

National Signing Day is 13 days away. Here are five developments to look out for as we inch closer to February 1st.

New Additions from high school

Syracuse is still in the running to land two players from Illinois. Alex Palczewski, a three star offensive lineman visited SU last weekend. Chris Elmore, a three star defensive tackle, plans to visit Syracuse this upcoming weekend.

SU is also interested in John Mitchell, another Illinois defensive lineman as well as Keontae Jones, an Ohio safety.

New Additions from JUCO

Highland (Kan.) Community College Grad Brandon Berry will visit Syracuse January 27th. The defensive end tried to commit to SU, but the Orange coaching staff wants to host him before they decide to accept.

Mesa (Ari.) CC’s Shaquille Grosvenor, a defensive tackle, will visit SU this weekend. If he is able to transfer to Syracuse he’d have three years of eligibility left. Berry would have two years remaining.

Where Will SU’s DeCommits End Up?

Joshua Palmer was the Orange’s highest rated receiver at the time of his decommitment last week. Could he really end up at Tennessee? The Orange recently parted ways with running back commit BJ Daniels. Where will he land?

Tommy DeVito turns down Washington State, Texas A&M and Ole Miss

DeVito is locked into Syracuse. The story to watch for here is which quarterbacks will the three schools DeVito rejected end up with? Right away we’ll only be able to compare rankings, but years down the road we’ll see who got the best QB.

Tim Lester and Tim Daoust at Western Michigan

Chris Elmore decommitted from Western Michigan following the coaching change. Could these two bring him back?

Also, when the Fizz spoke with SU defensive lineman Tyler Cross two years ago on National Signing Day, he said Daoust was the only reason he chose Syracuse. Now Cross is transferring. Where does Western Michigan fit in there?

Finally, Dino Babers had limited time to put together a recruiting class at Syracuse last year. Now Lester and Daoust, two former SU staffers, are in the same position. Who will recruit better?
