Steve Lavin¬†will be hired as the head coach at St. John’s, and most likely lead to this first impression: “Thank goodness it’s not Paul Hewitt. He would have killed the recruiting trail there.”
Lavin’s a West Coast guy; what would he know about hitting the Empire State trail?
Actually, the ex-ESPN analyst should scare Big East recruiters. Especially after his opening press conference.
“I want assistants who are strong in the Northeast with recruiting ties and I want to look for people who have had experience as a head coach.”
Lavin knows what he needs to do. But how about his recruiting history?
Per Wikipedia, it doesn’t get much better for guys scouring the five boroughs.
At UCLA, Lavin and his staff recruited and signed the No. 1 rated recruiting class in the country in 1998 and 2001. Lavin signed seven McDonaldÕs High School All-Americans. Seven of LavinÕs former Bruin recruits are currently roster members of NBA teams. As a result, the Bruins have the longest collegiate streak in the country of consecutive years having a player drafted to the NBA.
Crap. He recruited Baron Davis and Trevor Ariza.
Well at least he’s not a high-profile guy who looks flashy and attracts recruits. Oh wait, he worked at ESPN… and he has a smoking hot actress wife (pictured).
I mean really… She was an¬†Entourage girl.
Is Juli’s title in jeopardy? Does the Orange have to put it’s guard up?
Lavin has the recruiting tools, the star power, and the slicked-back hair to turn MSG into a college arena. The Johnnies are back in play.
