Nice job by Syracuse football being ahead of the curve for St. Peter’s Prep wideout Kolton Huber (6’1″ 190 lbs.). After last fall, SU was one of only three schools to offer him. The others were Buffalo and Kansas. Hey, Syracuse can win that recruiting battle, right?
Well, after now the crowd is starting to form around him. The Class of ’16 target has been invited to Penn State’s Spring Game later this month, according to Syracuse.com. When James Franklin starts looking at you, lots of schools take notice. Franklin has a rep as one of the best recruiters in the nation.
The good news is Huber just attended SU’s spring practice this past weekend, and it was his third visit. He also spoke highly of the Orange. Bad news is he now has Maryland, Duke, Virginia, and Boston College looking at him. He also may do some football camp action with Stanford. In other words, it’s not just Kansas and Buffalo anymore.
And it’s not just catching passes. How about this blocked punt (caught punt?) returned for a touchdown in the playoffs at MetLife. Pretty cool play.
Can SU hold off the more successful programs coming after him? For now, none of them have offered but that is likely to change as we head into the summer and fall. For now, let’s hope Syracuse being there early means an advantage for the Orange.
