Each summer the top rising high school senior quarterbacks in the country travel to California to attend the Elite11 football camp. This year 2017 SU commit Tommy DeVito made the trip and performed so well that he’s received national attention.
For starters, the counselors named DeVito as the quarterback most likely to play early in college at the conclusion of the camp on Sunday.
Just by searching DeVito’s name on Twitter, it’s obvious the quarterback had a good weekend.
On Saturday, recruiting analyst Sanjay Kirpalani tweeted: “#Cuse pledge Tommy DeVito has opened eyes early. Continuing that in this session #Elite11ProDay”
Another analyst, Tyler Donahue, tweeted: “Tommy DeVito is emphatically stating his case for a ticket to The Opening. Attack mode all week.”
Of the 24 QB’s at Elite11, 12 will be chosen to attend The Opening camp at Nike’s headquarters in July. After his Elite11 performance, DeVito now has a legitimate chance to be picked. This would be a major win for the the New Jersey native as well as for SU Football.
Heading into Elite11 DeVito was the 77th rated pro-style quarterback in the 2017 class, per 247 Sports. Keep a close eye on that number in the coming weeks, as DeVito should move up following his strong showing in California.
Syracuse To Be Represented At Another Satellite Camp
Coaches from Syracuse and Penn State will attend Bowie State’s “College Exposure Camp” in Severn, Md., on June 20th, according to The Post Standard. SU now has eight scheduled off campus football camps this summer. The first one took place in Fort Lauderdale last Friday.
Dino Babers and company will scout players the staff otherwise would not be able to see by traveling to these camps. They could prove to be major factors for SU as the summer progresses.
