It has been the most-dragged out recruitment process in recent memory and it might finally be reaching an end. Four star forward Taurean Thompson, a New Jersey native, is set to make his final college visit as he takes off for Michigan State. Weeks ago, Thompson narrowed his college list to three schools; Michigan State, Syracuse and Seton Hall. Just two weeks ago a report came out from Scout.com that Thompson favored a move to SU.
Then, there was a hitch. Reportedly Thompson’s mom requested that he stay closer to home, making Seton Hall, which is located in Northern New Jersey, the favorite to land him. The saga took another twist when Eron Gordon signed his Letter of Intent with Seton Hall, putting them at the maximum number of scholarships¬†for the upcoming season. In other words, Seton Hall would have to have a player transfer in order to bring in Thompson.
Now, we finally be making some actual progress in this story. After Thompson takes his visit to East Lansing, he will have taken official visits to all three schools on his list. This has to help him reach a final decision and soon, right? Right? Please?
Well it seems like a decision may just be around the corner. And, reading between the lines, I would say Syracuse is¬†not¬†the favorite to land Thompson. If he¬†really wanted to come to the Hill, he would have committed already. If it was in fact between Syracuse and Seton Hall, he most likely would not take a visit to Tom Izzo’s program.
It really is impossible to know for sure anything about Thompson or his decision. In March it was said he would make his decision after his Senior season in High School ended. That was almost two months ago and we are still waiting. Two weeks ago, it seemed like he was heading to Syracuse. Then he was heading to Seton Hall. Now, maybe he is heading to Michigan State.
He would be a huge get for Syracuse, but don’t get you hopes up. No one knows where this kid’s head is at.
The point is, whatever happens, it seems like we will know soon, and that is something writers, insiders, experts and fans alike will all be thankful for.
