With a few more days until March madness kicks back up, we’ve got plenty of time to preview Syracuse’s matchup with Houston, and really detail the Cougars. I started to do so while talking with Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, take a listen:
What a season it’s been for the Orange. There were points this year where it seemed nearly like a sure thing that Syracuse would fail to make the NCAA tournament. Until their March 1st victory over UNC, it seemed that the Orange were destined for the NIT. Then a win over Clemson got the fans excited and made it seem like this quad had reinvented itself. We obviously know that SU then crushed NC State in the ACC tournament and lost at the buzzer to a strong Virginia team. Were fans content then? Absolutely not. Come selection Sunday not many were sure whether Coach Boeheim’s squad had enough of a resume to be granted a spot in the tournament. When Wichita St and Utah St got in it was looking bleak or the ORange, and then, the Midwest region proved the haters wrong as Syracuse was selected to face San Diego State as an 11 seed. Now Syracuse sits awaiting the Sweet 16 where it will face Houston.
The haters will say what they want about Jim Boeheim, but at the end of the day, he‚Äôs here while Coach K, Calipari, Izzo, Self, Williams, Wright…aren‚Äôt. He‚Äôs made it to his 20th Sweet 16, that‚Äôs something to celebrate. It‚Äôs not easy to make the Sweet 16:
This team has done it, and they aren’t ready to go home. The Orange want more and look to get it this weekend.
