LeQuint Allen has committed to Syracuse Football! The New Jersey native joins Cornell Perry in the 2022 class. Allen is listed at 6-foot, 180 pounds and hails from Millville, New Jersey. Allen is the first offensive player to join the ‘22 fold.
Allen is rated a 3 star in the 247sports.com composite. He’s in the top 1,000 nationally, 68th at his position, and 24th in NJ. He also said offers from Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, Virginia, and West Virginia.
This is a HUGE recruiting win for Syracuse. Each of the teams listed above are developing in northeast powers and had far better seasons than SU in 2020. Syracuse’s recruiting presence in the northeast has been shaky in recent years, losing several NY prospects to other schools like BC and Rutgers.
SU offered Allen back in July 2020 and seemingly led the entire way. His tape shows his prowess as a tailback, but he’s a two-way player as many high school prospects are. Allen has film at both safety and corner and looked solid.
Syracuse has arguably the best running back room in the ACC heading into the 2021 season, but Jarveon Howard and Abdul Adams could both be gone at the conclusion of the season. Last year Head Coach Dino Babers restocked with freshman phenom Sean Tucker, followed by ‘21 signee Josh Hough. The Orange need to continue to restock the backfield with talent.
Allen could be a great complement to Josh Hough down the road. Hough is a bigger back that has a good combination of speed and power. Allen could be more of a scat back. In other words, a good receiving threat and a home-run hitter out of the backfield. He runs angry and it shows. This is a great pickup for Babers and Company, and the recruiting wins in the northeast region need to continue if SU wants to crack the top 50 in the recruiting rankings and get back to 10 win seasons.
