Sometimes it can be fun to take an hour and scroll back through your old photos, old snapchat memories, or even old predictions. Other times, you could probably submit a whole novel to @Oldtakesexposed on Twitter. SU football is done for the season so let’s rewind back to mid-August when we dropped our pre-season player awards and see how we did!.
Pre-Season FIZZ PRESEASON AWARDS
Team MVP: Sean Tucker (4)
Best Offensive Player: Sean Tucker (4)
Best Defensive Player: Mikel Jones (4)
Most Improved: Luke Benson (2) and Garrett Williams (2)
Best Newcomer: Duce Chestnut (6)
Not that bad honestly! Many thought Sean Tucker would have a breakout season this year and boy did he. Not many probably thought he would burst onto the scene to the extent that he did but he is certainly the MVP and best offensive player.
Seems like the Fizz the nail on the head with Mikel Jones as well. The first team All-ACC performer took a massive step in his second season in the 3-3-5 defense. Jones has a big decision to make in the near future on whether to go pro or return to the Hill.
Most improved our one cold take. Luke Benson continued to simply be utilized as a blocker in the run game and he transferred out of the program a few days ago. Garrett Williams had a pretty good season but it wasn’t anything spectacular. Honestly, his 2020 campaign looked a lot of more impressive than 2021’s. Williams still played well enough to pick up honorable mention All-ACC honors and also has to decide on his future in the coming days and weeks.
Finally, Duce Chestnut as the best newcomer could certainly be a winner. The true frosh earned All-ACC third team honors which seems reason enough to slot him there. Garrett Shrader could also be argued here considered he transferred in, but he wasn’t on any of the ACC’s postseason teams.
Overall, pretty good predictions from the Fizz! Looks like we won’t be getting exposed this year. Be sure to come back next year for 2022’s pre-season awards.
