Tomorrow is National Signing Day, a big day for any collegiate program. 10 players have verbally committed to Syracuse football, all are expected to put pen to paper during the early period which starts tomorrow. Make sure you stay locked on all of our platforms tomorrow, we’ll have updates on Twitter as well as our website covering all of tomorrow’s expected signees.
As of this moment, all of SU’s signees are known, but anything can happen on National Signing Day so make sure to continue to check our coverage, we’ll let you know if anything crazy happens.
This recruiting class is looking rather bleak for SU. Babers has never been a top recruiter despite that being something he was marketed as coming in, though you have to give some credit for what he’s accomplished with a grand majority of 3-stars. This year is no different, Syracuse’s class is made up of 100% 3-stars.
Committed:
RB – LeQuint Allen
ATH – Dom Foster
WR – Donovan Brown
OT – Chad Schuster
OT – Joe Cruz
CB – Quan Peterson
CB – Jeremiah Wilson
ATH – Cornell Perry
DL – Belizaire Bassette
LB – Mekhi Mason
As of now, those ten guys make up the 75th best-recruiting class in the nation, dead last in the ACC.
What you’ll notice immediately is the Orange haven’t done much to plug their biggest holes. Most notably at WR. With Taj Harris having transferred out mid-season, Syracuse was left with one of the thinnest WR rooms it’s had in recent years. You’d think they’d target receivers then right? Guess not. Babers brings in just one, Donovan Brown, a lanky WR who only got one other offer, which was from Vanderbilt. Doesn’t exactly look like the solution to a major problem. Looking elsewhere, the defensive line is another huge need for this team. With Cody Roscoe, josh Black, Mckinley Williams, and Kinglsey Johnathan all out the door, the Orange are in need of an overhaul. While there are some names on the roster that will step up and take those places, there’s still a need for more depth. The Orange acquire just one defensive lineman in this window, Belizaire Bassette, who if pans out would certainly be another diamond in the rough on Babers’ resume.
Syracuse still has a chance to add to this class though, here are a few players Babers is hoping choose the hill:
WR – Chris Reed
Reed scheduled a visit to Syracuse before committing to Utah, once decided on the Utes he rescinded that visit. Though if he doesn’t choose to sign in the early window the Orange may be able to score a visit later this winter.
DE – Denis Jaquez
Recently de-committed from northwestern after a visit to Syracuse, Jaquez could be a big get for the Orange. One of the highest touted defensive linemen hailing from New Jersey, Jaquez holds offers from plenty of solid programs, Boston College, Texas A&M, Maryland, Rutgers, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech. The DE would be a nice addition to SU’s thin DL group.
LB – Kadin Bailey
Son of Hall of Fame Broncos DB, Champ Bailey, Kadin has great football in his blood. The LB took an official visit to Syracuse earlier in December, his offer list isn’t too deep, Tennessee poses the biggest threat to the Orange.
With still so many holes to fill, the Orange must look toward the transfer portal in hopes to nab a few more players to fill out the roster. Look out for more articles this week on who the Orange may target.
