Joe Girard: C+
JG3 looked strong in the first half but was a non-factor in the second. The guard air-balled his first two opportunities from range and did little to create off the dribble. The Glens Falls native was tailormade to be a mismatch today and though he found success early, it wasn’t consistent enough.
Buddy Boeheim: B+
Buddy led the team in scoring with 18 points but was lost in transition coverage at times and had some struggles on the defensive end. Still he earns a solid grade for his productive offensive showing. This was a much better outing for him than the last time he played FSU. In December the guard scored just six points and was 0-4 from deep.
Cole Swider: A
It’s weird, Swider has now had two of his better games against Florida State. The Villanova transfer went for 16 and 10 in December. This afternoon, the Rhode Island native tallied a solid 17-point and seven rebound game. If Swider can play like this more often than not, this team could work its way back into NCAA Tourney contention.
Jimmy Boeheim: C-
The Cornell transfer hardly played in the second half. Jimmy scored six points and recorded seven rebounds but wasn’t much a factor the whole contest, hence why coach Boeheim took him out early in the second. This ends a bit of a scoring tear the forward was on previously.
Jesse Edwards: A
The Dutchess was an absolute weapon on both ends of the floor. The center was 5-7 from the floor, had seven boards, and three swats on the outing. Most importantly, HE DID NOT FOUL OUT!
Frank Anselem: D
Just meh. The backup center really didn’t do much of anything and found a way to pick up three fouls in just six minutes. On the bright side, that’s a trio of fouls that Jesse Edwards didn’t commit.
Symir Torrence: B-
The Marquette transfer recorded 16 minutes and was in for key stretches of the contest like SU’s 12-2 run midway through the second half. The guard still struggles on defense but had some strong takes and four assists as well.
Benny Williams: Absent
He simply did not play.
