Syracuse’s Class of 2022 has already been called Jim Boeheim’s best ever. Now it’s surely in rare air. Judah Mintz, the 53rd best prospect in this year’s crop by 247sports, just announced his commitment to Syracuse.
Mintz, a four-star combo guard, is rated as the ninth best prospect at his position. He was previously committed to Pitt, but opened his recruitment up last November. The Oak Hill and Team Durant product stands 6-foot-4, 175 pounds, and has been tabbed for his body control and athleticism. He visited the 315 for the Syracuse-Duke game, which besides the game result itself, was a pretty awesome selling point for a prospect. Mintz also had DePaul, North Carolina State and Wake Forest in his final four schools before choosing the Orange.
With the departures of Buddy and Jimmy Boeheim, Syracuse needs a number one and number two scorer. Joe Girard gave the Orange mixed results in his journey to becoming a “true point guard.” Mintz isn’t necessarily a floor general either, but he can put the ball in the basket. He also has drawn comparisons to NBA veteran Avery Bradley for his defensive ability. Regardless of whether he plays the 1 or the 2 position, Mintz brings elite athleticisim to SU, something the ‘Cuse guards have been severely lacking over the past couple of years.
The class of 2022 is now Jim Boeheim’s largest since 2007, a group that featured stars like Johnny Flynn, Donte Green and Scoop Jardine. Hopefully this crew can have the same impact.
