There hasn’t been much movement in Syracuse Football recruiting. Not to be that guy, but the only movement has been downward. The Orange have slowly skidded down the national recruiting rankings list for the class of 2023 as the regular season has played out. As of right now, SU is slotted at the 90th spot among the 130 FBS teams and dead last among the 14 ACC teams.
The biggest reason why the class ranks where it does is its size. Syracuse has just ten commitments in its ’23 cycle. Despite the small group, it’s a very solid bunch. The Orange have their crown jewel in 3-star dual-threat quarterback LaNorris Sellers and two of the top ten recruits in the state of New York.
The last recruit Syracuse received a verbal pledge from was Lysander Moeolo on Halloween. Of course, the group of ten commits had to be enjoying SU’s magical 6-0 start to the season and number 14 ranking in the College Football Playoff.
However, since that peak in the battle against Clemson the Orange have reeled. So how have members of Syracuse’s ’23 class responded? Is there any new movement in a positive or negative direction? Let’s discuss.
LaNorris Sellers – 3 star QB
- Offered by Tulane (8/11/22)
- Offered by Coastal Carolina (10/2/22)
- Offered by South Carolina (10/22/22)
Jayden Bass – 3 star OL
- Offered by Arizona State (10/28/22)
These are the only two real big updates as of right now. A couple of Palmetto State schools are trying to add Sellers to their classes late in the cycle. Coastal Carolina has developed Grayson McCall into a serious NFL prospect at quarterback. South Carolina is in the midst of a resurgence right now under Shane Beamer. The Gamecocks just upset #5 Tennessee in blowout fashion.
Sellers seems solid to Syracuse still. The top recruit in SU’s class is interacting with his fellow commits on social media. Additionally, the 3-star is posting graphics of his season highlights created by Syracuse’s creative department. As of right now, the Orange’s best prospect seems fully committed to the 315.
Jayden Bass scooped up an offer from ASU a few weeks ago. The offensive lineman committed to Syracuse in July and has been quiet ever since. This offer to the Sun Devils is his first since pledging to the ‘Cuse. Arizona State is in a weird spot right now. The program fired Herm Edwards a few weeks ago after a tumultuous offseason heading into this year. With the uncertainty over there, it’s unlikely Bass has serious interest in ASU.
Syracuse’s class seems solid at this juncture. Yeah, it’s a small group in ’23 but each of the pledges is seriously committed and the Orange figure to continue to add to it as the season ends. Stay tuned for more SU Football recruiting updates throughout the winter.
