Syracuse football regained a bit of momentum with a 32-23 win over Boston College yesterday. The Orange snapped a five-game losing streak, and secured (even though in today’s CFB, a 6-6 record is a lock for a bowl) a bowl berth, and maybe something a bit more illustrious than the first bowl game of the year. Let’s check out where different projections have the ‘Cuse headed this bowl season.
CBS: Fenway Bowl
Right now, CBS’s Jerry Palm has Syracuse headed to Fenway Park on December 17 to play East Carolina in the aptly named Fenway Bowl. This would be a rather intriguing matchup – the Pirates took NC State to the wire in the season’s opening week, and have been in plenty of AAC high-scoring affairs.
However, this bowl placement contradicts rumors around the SU campus. Finals week ends the 16th for Syracuse students, and yes, football players are students. They have tests and presentations to knock out beforehand.
ESPN: Fenway or Birmingham Bowl
The Worldwide Leader in Sports has two analysts making its bowl projections. Mark Schlabach has the Orange in the Fenway bowl against a Luke Fickell-less Cincinnati, and Kyle Bonagura has the ‘Cuse in the Birmingham Bowl against Missouri. Syracuse and Mizzou would match up well – two lower scoring offenses who have hung around with the best in the conference. The Tigers did just loose their best wideout to the transfer portal. It also would be nice for ‘Cuse fans to get some warm weather in Birmingham.
