The 2023 ACC Football Kickoff is underway. All 14 teams will have representatives address the media at some point over the next three days. But first, commissioner Jim Phillips spoke this morning. Here are some of the most important things he noted.
“Our schools and fans will immediately benefit from significantly increased television exposure on ABC and ESPN platforms, elevated production value and innovative creative appraoches tied to those ABC broadcasts, a commitment to greater integration of all ACC schools across all aspects of the network.”

“I strongly, and the conference strongly, supports student-athletes’ ability to monetize their name, image, and likeness through endorsement contracts, social media opportunities, and other legitimate NIL activites. Payment by boosters, tied to a tenant at a specific institution, is not legitimate NIL activity.”

“The recent unprecedented transfers of student-athletes are tainted by inducements disguised as NIL money. Too many student-athletes enter the transfer portal based on rumor, or bad advice. This is detrimental to their education and future, and must stop.”

“The ACC continues to be supportive of the expanded playoff. This past year, we led an effort that made significant progress and resolutions surrounding a college football 365 day calendar. This initiative has already led to meaningful changes related to player safety that are reflected in the new playing rules that begin this fall.

“During the season, these supervisors will assists in evaluating every ACC game to ensure consistency across all on-field officiating positions.”

“25 games against Power Five opponents, 11 non-conference games against teams ranked in the Final 2022 AP poll, 27 games against opponents that appeared in a bowl game last year, and 11 games against team’s in ESPN’s 2023 way too-early-top 25.
