It’s crazy to say but Fran Brown has had pretty much a perfect start to his time as Syracuse head coach. The New Jersey native has brought more attention to the program than we have seen in a long time. But, out of all the commits that Brown has so far, none may be more important than this one. Yes, that includes Kyle McCord.
Fadil Diggs, a four-star out of high school and a four-star in the transfer portal, announced his commitment to the Orange yesterday. The decision for Diggs comes after he visited Syracuse last week, a day after visiting Alabama. A recruit picking the ‘Cuse over the Crimson Tide is something that a month ago would have seemed impossible. But now, Fran Brown has shown that anything is possible with Diggs.
The defensive end isn’t just important because Alabama wanted him, or the fact he was a four star. But, Diggs is a proven starter in the SEC. Brown has brought in multiple players from Georgia, however none of them played consistent time. Diggs was a multi-year starter and team captain for the Aggies. The experience that he brings will be vital for the Orange next year.
In addition, Diggs fills a massive hole in the SU roster. With the departure of a number of key contributors, including Caleb Okechukwu, Terry Lockett and Leon Lowrey, defensive end was a position of need.
There are still more reasons of why Fadil Diggs is such an impactful transfer. The New Jersey native will be around to mentor two key freshmen, KingJoseph Edwards and Caden Brown. Success next year will be big for the Orange, but whats most important at the end of the day is long term success. If Diggs can bring what he learned at Texas A&M, and mentor the freshman, then Syracuse is in a great spot moving forward.
