Syracuse vs. Wake Forest, By the Numbers

Wake Forest

Wake Forest 99, Syracuse 70. A 29-point blowout, which could have been even worse. It was a tough game to watch for SU fans. If you understandably turned off the TV, here are the most important numbers to know from the loss.

-38

The +/- for Judah Mintz, the worst on the team. It’s hard to criticize the one player consistently scoring for the Orange, but that’s an ugly, ugly number. While Mintz’s teammates aren’t hitting their shots, the “hero ball” accusations levied against him are starting to carry some weight.

0

The amount of leads SU held. The Orange tied the game at 7-7 with 15 minutes left in the first half, then trailed the rest of the way. While the second half got really ugly, it was never particularly close.

10

The amount of times Syracuse has shot under 30% on three-pointers this season. The Orange went 7/27 last night, good for just 26%. SU couldn’t buy a shot against WF. Chris Bell went 0/5 from behind the arc, Justin Taylor was 2/7, and Benny Williams was 0/3. At some points, you have to stop trying if it isn’t working.

63%

The clip that Wake Forest shot at on triples yesterday. It’s the highest percentage SU has allowed all season. The Orange have one of the better three-point defenses, allowing just 32% shooting across the year. It didn’t look like that last night, though.

1

Syracuse’s blocks total against Wake Forest. It ties SU’s lowest total of the season. Most of that is due to forward Maliq Brown playing passively in foul trouble, but in general, the Orange’s defensive effort was lacking. It was so bad that after the game, head coach Adrian Autry said, “I’d like to apologize to our fans and our university for that performance.”
