Last night Syracuse basketball received its first commitment from the transfer portal. Colorado center Eddie Lampkin announced his intent to join the Orange next season. After the departures of Quadir Copeland, Maliq Brown, and Justin Taylor, SU has a number of holes that need to be filled and bringing in the big man from the Big12 is a great start. But, lets take a look at some other players that the ‘Cuse should be targeting moving forward.
Harvard PG Malik Mack
I’ve already written a whole piece on Mack and why he is the perfect choice for the Orange. He fits exactly what Syracuse needs and has the chance to be a star on this team next year running the point. Malik Mack has the connections to the 315 and should be the top choice for Autry.
St Josephs G Erik Reynolds II
While he still hasn’t officially entered the portal, most assume that the First Team All A-10 guard from the DMV Erik Reynolds will leave St. Josephs. If he does, he is a guard similar to Mack that the Orange need to go after. Reynolds is more experienced than Mack, with three years under his belt at the mid-major level. This past season, the Maryland native averaged 17.3 points and shot 38% from deep. Reynolds may not have the highest assist numbers, but his ability to create would make him a good fit for what SU is looking for.
Hofstra G Jaquan Carlos
Another guard who can fit what the Orange are looking for, Jaquan Carlos is different from Erik Reynolds but could fit well in the SU offense. His ability to distribute and make plays is better than just about any other player in the transfer portal. It’s been a while since the ‘Cuse has had a true point guard who can distribute like Carlos and bringing him in would be a great change moving forward.
