The opponents and dates for Syracuse’s 2024 campaign have been known for a while. But, as the times and TV networks get revealed, it means that college football season is really just right around the corner.
The times and networks for five of SU’s games were announced this past Thursday. So how much media attention are Fran Brown and the Orange getting? Let’s take a look.
Week One: Aug. 31 vs. Ohio (3:30 p.m., ACCN)
Unsurprisingly, a week one match-up against a non-Power Five school will be on ACC Network. It will be Fran Brown’s first game as head coach with a brand-new roster. As for the opposition, the Bobcats are coming off a monster 10-3 2023 campaign that included a Myrtle Beach Bowl win. They won four in a row to end last year. Those notes move it to the competitive mid-afternoon spot.
Week Two: Sep. 7 vs. Georgia Tech (Noon, ACCN)
An early conference matchup is stuck in the normal Saturday noon spot. While the two programs have had struggles in recent years, both teams seem to be on the rise. Syracuse had a top 25 transfer portal ranking, while last yearGeorgia Tech got its first bowl win since 2016.
Week Four: Sep. 20 vs. Stanford (7:30 p.m., ESPN)
After a bye week, Syracuse gets its first primetime game. While SU easily could be riding into this matchup 2-0, the big storyline will be on the other side of the field. The Friday night lights matchup at the Dome is Stanford’s first conference game in the ACC.
Week Five: Sep. 28 vs. Holy Cross (Noon, ACCN)
A September home matchup against a FCS team doesn’t scream high ratings, and the noon ACCN assignment backs this up. When these two squads played on the same date in 2019, SU dominated 41-3, and a similar result seems to be expected by TV executives.
Week Eight: Oct. 24 @ Pitt (7:30 p.m., ESPN)
Another ESPN matchup is with one of Syracuse’s protected rivalries. This matchup has gotten the big-game treatment recently. After last year’s Yankee Stadium matchup, in 2024 it will be a Thursday night national broadcast game. For SU, it’s the end of a three game road trip, following trips to UNLV and NC State. The Orange could easily be 5-1 or 6-0 entering this game, setting up a big matchup heading into November.
