Cole Swider’s Two-Way Contract Withdrawn

After two solid performances in the NBA Summer League, Cole Swider has had his two-way contract revoked by the Miami Heat. He’s now an unrestricted free agent.

Swider started his career as an unrestricted free agent for the Los Angeles Lakers back in 2022. He played limited minutes in the NBA, but was a starter for the South Bay Lakers, a G-League affiliate team.

After getting waived last summer, Cole Swider was picked up by the Heat on a two-way contract. He spent most of his time on the G-League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce, where he averaged 25 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, with an efficient 47% clip on threes.

This summer, as a part of the Heat’s Summer League squad, Swider continued to shoot the ball well. In two performances, the wing averaged 19 points per game on 56% shooting from behind the arc.

Despite those strong numbers, Cole Swider had his two-way deal revoked by Miami, making him an unrestricted free agent. That’s in large part because the Heat already have three other players on two-way contracts, and keeping a fourth would result in second apron financial penalties for the team.

As an unrestricted free agent, Swider should have a decent chance of getting picked up by another team. He’s proven he’s a competent enough shooter to land on another G-League roster or sit on the end of an NBA bench.
