Marlowe Wax Named to Third Preseason Watch List

Marlowe Wax, a linebacker for Syracuse football, has picked up nominations to three major preseason watch lists over the course of the summer.

First, all the way back in May, Wax was put on the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List. The trophy has been handed out for the last 20 seasons to college football’s most impactful defensive player. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity. The award is named after the former USC All-American defensive back Ronnie Lott. 41 other defensive players were added to the watch list alongside Wax.

Earlier this week, Marlowe Wax nabbed a spot on the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List. This is another award doled out to the best collegiate defender of the year. Lastly, earlier today, Wax was named to the preseason watch list for the Butkus Award, which goes to the best linebacker in college football.

What might be most impressive is that this is Marlowe Wax’s second straight year to be named to each of these preseason watch lists. Plus, coming off a Second Team All-ACC selection, Wax also made the Preseason All-ACC Team this month.

It’s no surprise Marlowe Wax is collecting so many accolades. He’s entering his fifth year with the Orange, and hasn’t missed a game since stepping on campus. With 294 career tackles, Wax is one of the ten leading active college players in that stat. That total also ranks top-20 in Syracuse program history.

Wax is a great SU football player, but this year, he has the opportunity to prove that he’s also a great college football player, period.
