Syracuse vs. Georgia Tech: Crystal Ball Predictions

Adam (1-0): Syracuse 24, Georgia Tech 23

This is going to be an incredible college football game. Georgia Tech proved that it was a good team with its win over Florida State, however, FSU lost to BC last week which says maybe that win wasn’t really that impressive. Syracuse didn’t look as impressive against Ohio as some would have hoped, but Kyle McCord did and that’s what will lead the ‘Cuse to victory. This will be a slow, methodical game. The Yellow Jackets will run the ball and not push the pace of the game. The Orange will get limited possessions and need to make the most of them. I think McCord does enough and the pass defense shuts down Haynes King SU barely escapes with a victory in an instant classic.

Tyler (0-0): Syracuse 31, Georgia Tech 27

Everyone is making this game about stopping the run. Thats fair. However, let’s be real: Georgia Tech is going to get what it wants with its run game. The Yellow Jackets will get at least 150 yards, and probably well over 200 yards. Don’t forget that Syracuse can also run, though. Fran Brown has said he wants LeQuint Allen to get 1,500 rushing yards this season, and this is the game he needs to start down that path. If the Orange run a lot, it keeps the ball out of the Jackets’ hands. Plus, it gives Syracuse’s defense a chance to rest. SU needs to give GT a taste of its own medicine, and I think they will.

yracuse began its season on a high note at the end of last weekend’s win over Ohio. However, it wasn’t always high at the start of the game. Kyle McCord was inconsistent on SU’s first drive, but quickly made up for it. With a ranked Georgia Tech squad feeding off a 2-0 start heading into the Dome, Syracuse needs to get out hot. No ifs, ands, or buts. On the other hand, the Yellow Jackets love to run the ball, and the Orange didn’t covet that department very well. Improvements need to be made for SU to pull out an upset. But if they can… Wow! Let’s ride it.

Dan S (1-0): Georgia Tech 27, Syracuse 20

While I would love to say that the Orange will come on top in their first ACC game of the season, I don’t see any way that Syracuse stops the Georgia Tech ground game. The Yellowjackets currently rank second in all of college football with 415 rushing yards through two games. GT also is tied for third for touchdowns on the ground with six. Georgia Tech has put up just over 475 rushing yards in its last two matchups against Syracuse, and it could be more of the same on Saturday. Last week, SU let up 255 rushing yards to Ohio. That was the most given up in an opener since 2008. On top of that Syracuse also ranks fifth worst in the nation for rushing defense in the country. If the Orange had Marlow Wax, maybe I could see them pulling it out. But, I just don’t think there’s anyway to stop this Georgia Tech offense on the ground.

Alex (1-0): Syracuse 38, Georgia Tech 34

If you like offense, this may be the game for you. Syracuse’s rush defense struggled against Ohio and now face off against an elite rushing team. The Yellow Jackets have 415 rushing yards through two games. But GT’s Florida State win is looking less impressive with how the Seminoles are playing. And SU’s offense looks legit. If the Orange can keep spending the wealth (plus possibly get some more production out of Umari Hatcher), another 30+ point performance seems possible for SU. This would be a statement win early in on in the Fran Brown era.

Dan P (1-0): Georgia Tech 38, Syracuse 24

Listen, as much as SU’s offense lit it up in Week One, things are really stepping up in terms of competition. GT has one of the best rushing attacks in the nation, and they’re going to eat the Orange front seven alive without Marlowe Wax. You better hope McCord can keep the offense rolling to keep it close, otherwise this one might get ugly fast. Elite coaches know how to deal with adversity, and this will be the first example of it in Fran Brown’s head coaching career.
