Kyle McCord: B-
This was a difficult game to grade McCord because he was given no help at all from the line. He threw a number of passes that could have been intercepted but also made plays that not many other guys in the country can. Yes, the fumble that led to the safety hurt, but McCord really picked things up afterward and locked in. The Orange wouldn’t have been in this game without their QB1.
SU’s Start Of The Game: D+
A new week, but the exact same issue for the Orange. Fran Brown has struggled to have his team ready for the start of games all season and that continued into today’s game. The Orange went down 14-0 early in the 2nd quarter and were on their way to getting embarrassed. SU can’t continue to put itself in this situation where it’s down and has to come back. It isn’t a sustainable way to win football games.
SU’s Offensive Line: D
The offensive line has been better than expected for most of this season. They’ve struggled to run block but Kyle McCord has been protected pretty well most games. A lot of the credit for that can be given to McCord and his ability to get the ball out quickly. Today, they got dominated by Boston College. McCord had no time, Allen didn’t have any rushing lanes. It was just bad in every way possible. The issue is, that Fran Brown didn’t give them any help. Play after play, McCord was all alone in the backfield with five receivers. There has to be someone else to give him help when the line breaks down.
SU’s Rush Defense: F
I think giving the ‘Cuse an F might be a bit generous. The Orange were destroyed in the trenches today. Play after play, the Eagles had a hole bigger than the state of New York to run through. BC’s running backs both had well over 100 yards with ease. Boston College was averaging less than 140 yards per game on the ground entering today. It was just too easy for them.
