Here we go again. Syracuse football is back in another rut. Every season, it seems that once November arrives, SU finds a way to lose.
Obviously, the deep playoff run for SU was essentially over when it lost to Pitt a couple of weeks ago. However, there was still some hope if Syracuse could sneak past its next three opponents and face Miami uninterrupted with a chance to make a statement at home.
Not only did Syracuse eliminate any of those hopes with a loss to Boston College, but Miami also knocked itself out of an undefeated season when Georgia Tech stunned the Hurricanes 28-23 in Atlanta. As a result, the Hurricanes slid from 4th in the nation to 12th.
Because of this loss, the Miami game has become somewhat less important, but it’s still a great test for Syracuse as they face a strong opponent at the end of the month.
The same scenario played out this past weekend in the loss to Boston College. The Eagles ran all over the Orange, racking up more than 310 yards on the ground. That is flat-out embarrassing for Syracuse fans, especially considering BC only threw for 65 yards on the day.
At this point, it seems all meaningful bowl game chances are over, and the focus has shifted to developing the team for the rest of the season and maximizing what Kyle McCord has to offer in his final season of college football.
By the way, McCord passed for almost 400 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday. He continues to impress in the pocket, but unfortunately, the defense let him down with the way BC ran the ball.
Overall, look for small victories in the Orange going forward, but realize that the season is almost sealed, leaving only an uninteresting bowl game on the horizon.
