Syracuse alums across the NFL playoffs

Syracuse football may be over for the time being. But if you still want your SU fix, just switch on your television set this weekend. Here’s a look at where the Orange are represented in the NFL playoffs.

Broncos

One of the Cinderella stories of the 2024 season, the Broncos charge on tomorrow against the Bills. And at the heart of the special teams unit for Denver is former Syracuse punter Riley Dixon. The ninth-year player has been busy this year. His 77 punts rank third in the league. While his average distance hasn’t been crazy this year, Dixon’s sure to play a big impact in the playoffs.

Bills

The local team doesn’t have much SU flair, but there is at least some practice squad representation. Defensive end Kingsley Jonathan has been on the practice squad all year after playing in a couple of games last year. But, he will be warming up Josh Allen and co for a playoff run.

Lions

The Lions won’t be playing for another week after clinching the NFC’s first-round bye. But when Detroit does play, there’s a good chance Ifeatu Melifonwu will have an impact. The safety has had a rough go, missing most of the season with injury. But he returned for the final three games of the regular season, racking up eight tackles heading into the postseason.

Vikings

Another practice squad member, Vikings wide receiver Trishton Jackson is more SU NFC North representation. The former SU wideout had a pair of receptions last season but has been on the practice squad for all of today.

Buccaneers

One of the most exciting SU players in recent history, Sean Tucker will make his playoff debut tomorrow night against Commanders. While Tucker has yet to carve out consistent snaps in the NFL, he has gotten 50 carriers this year for over 300 yards. His big game came in October with two touchdowns against the Saints. He’s had a carry in at least 11 games this year, so expect a play or two out of Tucker.
