The last few years for Syracuse basketball have been very odd offensively compared to the end of the Boeheim era. Three-point shooting has been a big issue for the ‘Cuse. That issue has gotten infinitely worse three days into portal season. The team’s only semi-reliable shooters, Chris Bell, Elijah Moore, and Kyle Cuffe are all gone. Finding someone who can knock down threes will be key for the Orange to have success next season. How about a guy from across the country?
Some rumours have started to swirl over the past few days of Alex Kline potentially narrowing in on his guy. Nate Kingz from Oregon State is the definition of a sharpshooter and would fit well into SU’s offense. He does follow Kline and Dan Engelstad on Instagram if that means anything to you. The Oregon native wouldn’t be a starter on next years team but could be a perfect piece off the bench.
A 45% three-point shooter would be a true difference maker for the ‘Cuse. Kingz was consistent throughout much of last season, making at least three deep balls in almost 10 games. The lefty has a great feel for space and is very good off-ball. He’s also a really good athlete who can drive to the rim with a great burst of speed.
What might be most impressive though about Kingz is his work ethic. The 6’5 guard played two years at NAIA the College of Southern Idaho and worked his tail off to get up to the division one level. Once he did, Kingz missed all of 2023-24 with a torn ACL before finally playing last season.
Passing and ball handing definitely aren’t Kingz strong suits but he is competent and comfortable enough under pressure to survive in the ACC. Keep an eye on the Oregon State product to be on the Orange next season.
