Fran Brown lands another New Jersey athlete

Another day, another Garden State recruit for Syracuse Men’s Football. It almost seems like a pattern is forming!

This time it’s Josiah Zayas. The 2026 recruit announced on X today that he’s committed to the Orange.

Zayas lists himself as an athlete, usually meaning one can play a variety of positions on both sides of the ball. In this case, it seems like Zayas can play solid as both a wide receiver and defensive back.

Despite not having any stars, Zayas received interest from several Power Five schools. Syracuse offered on November 4, while Boston College, Wisconsin and Iowa State were also big names involved in the mix.

Interestingly enough, just a minute after posting that he was committed to Syracuse, he posted that Wake Forest also offered him. So the sweepstakes may not be 100% over quite yet.

Of course, as a 2026 recruit, the athlete still has another season at St. Thomas Aquinas (who recently dismissed its entire coaching staff). But even just his junior year film is impressive. The main thing that stands out on both sides of the ball? Speed. Whether it was dropping back for interceptions or getting open on routes, Zayas has some wheels on him.

Of course, actually playing two ways at the Division 1 level is pretty hard to do. But with Fran Brown’s coaching, you never know.

So where does SU’s 2026 class stand now? Well, as the 2025 class was, it is big. With over a year to go, there are already at least 12 hard commits, according to 247sports, and that’s not counting Zayas today. That currently puts SU at 14th in the nation. The NIL might be actually working.

How about that athlete position? Well, it’s going to be busy. Three-star Jaxson Gates and E’Shawn Sutton have already committed to the 2026 class at that same spot.

Fran Brown has showed he loves to wrok with pure athletes. And that shows against in the signing of Zayas.
