I know, the season isn’t over yet. Syracuse almost beat SMU on the road last week. The Orange can absolutely win on a neutral floor. Last night SU played one of its best games of the season for times. But for other teams whos seasons are already over, players are entering the transfer portal. This guy is one that Syracuse has to target. A junior from Pepperdine, Moe Odum.
The New York City native is an absolute stud. Pepperdine wasn’t very good this year at just 11-22, but this guy stood out. Odum averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.5 APG. He was awesome in the WCC tournament averaging over 20 points per game and over 10 assists. Watching Odum’s tape, he’s an electric scorer. He has the ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor. He can also drive but more importantly, SU desperately needs a guy who can spot up from anywhere and knock down shots. Odu can do that. JJ Starling is an elite driver but can’t do that.
Odum also has the ability to distribute that Orange have been looking for. It’s another place where Starling has been lacking. This is the perfect complement to a great shooting guard that SU already has. Then, bring Kiyan Anthony off the bench as the 6th man and the ‘Cuse have three solid scoring options at the guard position compared to just one this year. Odum also plays best in a fast paced style of play which is what Autry preached but wasn’t able to accomplish this year.
Syracuse struck out in the transfer portal last year. Jaquan Carlos was unfortunately not as good as the team needed him to be. Jyare Davis and Eddie Lampkin both helped but didn’t do anything to put the team over the top or win games. Moe Odum has what it takes to take a team over the top and win games. This is a future star who is from NYC that the Orange need to get. This is where the team needs to use its new NIL money.
