Syracuse basketball has landed Montana State transfer guard Bryce Zephir. The former Bobcat averaged over five points and a couple rebounds and assists last season.
Zephir started his career at Chipola Junior College in the 2020-21 year. The same season that SU center Naheem McLeod was on the roster. Following his tenure in Florida, Zephir ended up at North Texas through the 2023 season.
After that, he played at Salt Lake Community College for one year, and then ended up at Montana State. Zephir shot 47% from the floor and 30% from three-point land last year.
Now at his fifth school (Syracuse), Zephir carries one year of eligibility left.
The new guard can bring versatility to SU’s young roster.
Zephir becomes the fifth commitment for Syracuse this year from the transfer portal. He joins a list that includes guard Naithan George, guard Nate Kingz, and centers William Kyle and Ibrahim Souare.
Zephir can provide some stability and much-needed energy that Syracuse was short of last season. The Orange have been missing that guy that can come in and spark some offense. Most SU fans might think of Quadir Copeland and his contributions as of late. Zephir has a chance to install some of that energy, without comparing skill level.
Of course, it’s early to tell what Zephir could emerge into as a guard. But one thing is for certain: Syracuse needs to find players to build around the addition of Naithan George after his strong tenure at Georgia Tech.
It’s already been an adventurous offseason for Syracuse, and it’s only going to get busier from here. Whether it’s the new transfers, subtractions, or newcomers like Kiyan Anthony or Sadiq White, it’ll be interesting to see how this team meshes in the near future.
Syracuse retains Donnie Freeman and JJ Starling, that’s for certain.
