Notre Dame QB Steve Angeli on Syracuse Visit

After getting Kyle McCord last season, Fran Brown set the standard high for what his quarterback will look like. In past years, SU fans would be thrilled that they have a QB the caliber of Rickie Collins. He’s a former four-star who sat for two years at LSU behind a Heisman winner and another very solid SEC quarterback. But Fran has made it clear that he’s looking for another. The fans seem to want another option as well.

Today, reports came out that Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli is on a visit in Syracuse right now. Angeli has been talked about as Nico Iamaleava’s replacement at Tennessee if that says anything about how other fan bases think about him. Angeli didn’t play much in two seasons with the Irish, but did play more than Rickie Collins. When he did, sometimes in high-leverage situations, Angeli looked really solid. In the College Football Playoff semifinal game against Penn State, he went in at the end of the first half and looked great. Angeli went 6-7 for 44 yards and looked unbelievably composed for playing on that big of a stage.

The big connection between the ‘Cuse and Angeli is of course, New Jersey roots. Angeli played his high school ball for Vito Campanile, the brother of SU associate head coach and quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile. There’s a guraentee that Nunzio knows exactly what he’d be getting in this guy.

Steve Angeli | Career Notre Dame Highlights

Angeli has a very impressive arm and is extremely accurate. In both seasons he played with the Irish, the Bergen Catholic product had a completion percentage above 67%. He looks very comfortable throwing the ball deep and does a good job of leading receivers. Last year, we saw how much Kyle McCord let the ball fly. Angeli has the ability to do that as well.
