Spring football game proves…not much

Well after watching the Cuse football spring game, there’s probably only one correct response.

This would have been a ton cooler if Syracuse had played against Colorado, Maybe next year, Fran Brown.

Joking. Kind of. The 2025 Spring Game for Syracuse was just about everything you could have expected in a spring game and not exactly in a great game.

Sure, there was a decent turnout and SU had the chance to showcase some of its stars. But heavy emphasis on the some in that sentence.

For starters, possibly the most important player of all the newcomers, Rickie Collins (who was just announced as QB1), didn’t even play. He’s reportedly dealing with a hand injury. But good news, it’s not supposed to last long and he should be good to go for this summer.

But, that did mean that the player that most people were there to see,

So what actually did happen? Well in an extremely non-offense-friendly game, there are not that many takeaways that can be made. The QB situation then turned into a flurry of people who will be competing for the backup role. Michael Johnson. Jr and Jahkari Williams both got a fair share of snaps, and they will likely be going for that #2 role this year.

The first touchdown of the day should be one that excited Orange football. Yasin Willis rushed in the first unofficial touchdown of the season. And with a big RB void this summer, that would be big.

Another rushing touchdown came from Jordan Montanez, who didn’t play at all last year but got decent snaps today.

Special teams were middle of the pack throughout. But, in the end, Jayden Oh, who showed promise during the season, nailed a 42-yarder that ended up being the game-winning for the blue team.

Overall, not much to take away. But hey, at least football is (kind of) back.
