Syracuse Basketball Lands Another Big Man In Portal

It’s safe to say Adrian Autry felt the pressure from the fans that Syracuse needed to be active in the transfer portal this summer. The NCAA Tournament hasn’t even wrapped up yet, and the Orange have made significant progress in rebuilding their roster. After landing UCLA big William Kyle III, Georgia Tech playmaker Naithan George and Oregon State sharpshooter Nate Kingz this past week, SU continues to add, bringing in Georgia Tech big Ibrahim Souare earlier today.

Souare is a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward from Conakry, Guinea. In his freshman season with the Yellow Jackets after redshirting in 2023, Souare contributed 2.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.2 assists, and 0.6 blocks in just about 17 minutes per game. He split time between power forward and center, starting 14 games in the regular season for GT.

Another solid pickup for Adrian Autry’s squad. It doesn’t move the needle necessarily, but it’s clear that with the moves that have been made so far, a main priority for SU basketball in 2025 is adding size and athleticism. Souare joins a big room of some freakish athletes, especially with Sadiq White on the way. The biggest need for Syracuse which still looms is a true center. All of these transfers are athletic enough to play both the four and the five, but in a super competitive ACC where seven-footers roam like nothing and rebounding is so important, the ‘Cuse desperately needs a post player on this roster.

But as it currently stands, Syracuse’s roster looks a whole lot better than it did a few weeks ago. Right now a starting five probably consists of George, Starling, Kingz, Freeman, and one of Kyle/Souare, surrounded by a plethora of talent on the bench with Anthony, White, and probably more to come. It’s only April 6th, and it’s clear that Syracuse basketball is not shy about making moves as more names become available in the portal throughout the summer months.
