If there ever seems to be a slow news week for Syracuse football, all you have to do is be a little be patient because Fran Brown can’t stay silent for too long. Yesterday, the Orange won the recruiting battle for four star wide receiver in the class of 2026 Amare Gough. The 6’1 Virginia native visited Syracuse last month. He received lots of interested from Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Maryland but decided to join Fran Brown and come all the way up to Central New York.
Here’s how 247Sports National Analyst Hudson Standish evaluated him two days ago, “Three-phase impact player who helped lead Richmond (Va.) Jefferson to a 12-1 record and a VHSL Class 3 quarterfinals appearance as a junior. Unverified physical specs, and is estimated to hover around 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. One of the more decorated track and field prospects in the 2026 cycle with personal bests of 10.97 in the 100m dash, 22-2.5 in the long jump, and 44-4 in the triple jump. T&F markers directly translate on tape, can erase cushion instantly off the line of scrimmage and take the top off the defense. Elusive playmaker with the ball in his hands, will take first-level passes to the house thanks to his speed-altering nuance and ability to play through arm tackles. Competitive nature shows up at the catch point and will show in flashes the ability to make contested grabs through contact. Could feasibly play on either side of the ball at the next level, but will likely find a role as a turbo-charged Z receiver. Should be viewed as a dynamic complementary receiver with the potential to open up an offense at the Power Four level.”
This is another example of Brown going after a pure athlete. That’s been a key factor in recruiting for the Orange over the past year. It seems to be working out so far. Gough is now the highest rated commit in SU’s class of 2026. It’s a class that is currently 9th in the country according to 247Sports.
