I think it’s safe to assume that Kiyan Anthony grew up a Syracuse basketball fan. We already know what his dad did for the program, but there have been a lot of great players to don the orange jersey over the years. But considering Kiyan Anthony was born in 2007, the knowledge pool might just be a little limited. In a social media video with SportsCenter, Kiyan named his all-time Syracuse starting five and it’s….. interesting to say the least.
So, to Kiyan Anthony, his all-time starting five is Michael Carter-Williams, Dion Waiters, Gerry McNamara, Carmelo Anthony, and Arinze Onuaku. I’m sure some of you are fuming at this information, or are yelling at Kiyan to hit the books, but this is a solid starting five, maybe just not all-time. Anyone who you could consider snubs (Derrick Coleman, Pearl Washington, Dave Bing, etc) are all way before Kiyan’s time.
Arinze Onuaku is a sick pull from Kiyan, showing his true fandom over the years (maybe with some help from the interviewer.) Onuaku is a name that hasn’t come up in a long time, but was solid with the Orange in the early 2010s.
While this was just a throwaway video for fun on social media, it’s interesting to see what Syracuse basketball is to the next generation. To a lot of people, SU is one of your prototypical “blue bloods” where talent has been prospering forever. But as of recent years, especially the past two or three, Syracuse is kind of losing that elite prestige that it had for so long. The ‘Cuse desperately needs another elite-level player like the ones Kiyan named to get back on the map. Who knows? It could be him.
