The Boeheims are getting the band back together.
Former Syracuse player Buddy Boeheim announced that his brother Jimmy Boeheim will join him on Boeheim’s Army for The Basketball Tournament this summer, marking his return after he first played with Boeheim’s Army in 2023.
For any Syracuse fans upset with this year’s disappointing season, the summer tournament could offer a reprieve, or at least serve as a distraction until football begins. Boeheim’s Army, which has competed in the tournament since 2015 and won the $1 million prize in 2021, will also have Jim Boeheim himself serving in an advisory role with the team, giving Syracuse fans another reason to be invested in the tournament.
In addition to the three Boeheims, plenty of former Syracuse players have already committed to playing for the team, with Elijah Hughes, Rakim Christmas, and Chris McCollough among them. With the tournament starting on July 19, there’s still plenty of time for former SU players to join Boeheim’s Army as it looks to win the tournament for the second time in five years.
The last time the three Boeheims shared the sidelines was during the 2021-22 season, where Jimmy and Buddy played under their father as the Orange struggled to a below .500 record at 16-17. While the tournament will be considerably lower stakes, it will be a fun wrinkle to see if the three Boeheims will fare better this time.
If that wasn’t enough of a reason to tune in, Syracuse is also one of the eight host sites for the tournament. The games will be hosted at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena, giving Orange fans a golden opportunity to reminisce and watch the Boeheims play basketball together again.
