Syracuse plays Maryland today at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA as part of the return of men’s lacrosse to the home of the New England Patriots. This will mark the first time since 2018 that Championship Weekend will return to the Boston suburb.
Gillette Stadium has hosted the 2008, 2009, 2012, 2017 and 2018 men’s lacrosse championships.
Both Syracuse and Maryland have had success in the venue. SU took home the hardware in 2008 and 2009. The Terrapins won in 2017 in both the men’s and women’s categories. In fact,
Maryland’s head coach John Tillman led Harvard in Gillette Stadium’s first-ever lacrosse game back in the 2008 regular season. He also led Maryland to that 2017 NCAA Championship in Foxborough.
This year marks the ongoing 54th annual single-elimination tournament for NCAA men’s lacrosse. It’ll be hosted by Harvard University.
Gillette Stadium has its history being a staple for the sport. In 2015, the Boston Cannons, a professional lacrosse team, played their home games in Foxborough. Now, the Premier Lacrosse League visits Gillette Stadium for select games.
It’ll be interesting to see how today’s contest plays out at a venue that both teams have thrived in. Syracuse will be eyeing its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2013. It won’t be easy; Maryland beat Syracuse earlier this season by four goals.
Syracuse and Maryland square off Saturday at 2:30 P.M. ET. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
