Syracuse lands yet another offensive lineman

Any worries you may have had about Syracuse’s offensive line may have been quelled over the past couple of days. After a few big-time commitments from the portal in the last few days, Florida State offensive guard TJ Ferguson added his name to the list.

The Orange looked pretty dire on the line, losing four of its starting offensive linemen this offseason either to the portal, draft or graduation. For a unit that Fran Brown prides himself on, that’s not a great look.

But Ferguson brings some immediate ACC and SEC experience to the front five for Syracuse. Not only did Ferguson play at Florida State, he started seven games for them at left guard. Sure, it wasn’t the Florida State of the past that was elite at every position, but that is some much-needed experience.

Plus, the best of the best were impressed by him out of high school. Ferguson started his career at…Alabama. That’s not too shabby of a first stop. He played in 13 games across three seasons with the Crimson Tide. This time, when he entered the transfer portal, 247Sports had him as the 14th-ranked inside offensive lineman in the portal and as a four-star transfer.

This has become a familiar pattern for Syracuse, which we’ve seen out of a few of these offseason transfers. A couple of iffy first stops, but Fran Brown is taking a chance. And for a team that’s trying to get to places it hasn’t been in a long time, that isn’t a bad idea.

So who does Ferguson join? The most impressive name is Kam Pringle, one of the top transfer portal recruits from South Carolina. Zach Rice, out of North Carolina, also joined the Ornage today. SU seems, once again, to really be attacking the trenches.
