Well it’s starting to feel a little bit real. The time of Syracuse Football’s clash with Tennessee to open the 2025 campaign is officially set, and that means football season is almost upon us. So set your calendars for noon on August 30.
Of course, this matchup was exciting when it was first announced. But it may be even more exciting now that the Orange…dare I say it…have more of a chance.
When last season ended, Tennessee has the large upper hand. The Volunteers were coming off a College Football Playoff appearance and more importantly were returning elite quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Syracuse meanwhile, despite a 10-win season, was losing quarter Kyle McCord and faced a lot of questions.
Well a lot has changed since then. The Volunteers lost Iamaleava after a strange NIL battle and now have an ongoing battle for the quarterback spot. Syracuse meanwhile has two solid option in Steve Angeli and and Rickie Collins Jr. to be QB1. With all of that uncertainty, it’s really anyone’s game to win in Atlanta.
And with today’s announcement of it being a noon game on ABC, that means Syracuse has a great opportunity to show early on in the season that they are legit. While primetime is always fun, noon is the prime college football viewing window. And with these early season games, there are going to be a TON of eyes on this games.
Not to mention the fact that SU playing on ABC is huge. The Orange have over the past few years had their fair share of games on Fox Sports 1 and ESPN and other big channels. But to have a network game this early in the season is a huge opportunity for Fran Brown and co.
Will the Orange actually have enough to pull off the upset? Who knows. But it sure is a good opportunity.
